Question 13: Rubio/Gonzalez - What you do when you think no one is watching. (Parking tickets)
LaNita brought up Commissioner Rubio’s troubling record of over 150 parking tickets, six license suspensions, and having her vehicle impounded twice for not paying those tickets. Commissioner Gonzalez also had similar issues, though not to the same extent. While both are decent people and public servants, I was deeply disappointed when this story surfaced, and think that it is absolutely relevant to this race.
This kind of behavior shows how you act when you think no one is watching. When there’s a significant gap between your public and private behavior, it raises questions about trust and character—especially in a mayoral race. If I had 150 parking tickets, I certainly wouldn’t be on City Council. I’m not even sure I wouldn’t be in jail! We live in the same city, but in many ways, we’re living in very different universes, and that’s one of the reasons I’m running for mayor.
It’s important to note that during those investigations, I was shown to have zero parking tickets.
